Battle of the Lappet-faced vultures. It's quite ex Battle of the Lappet-faced vultures. It's quite extraordinary how quickly vultures arrive after there's been a successful hunt and kill. They seem to appear from out of nowhere, and before too long, the carcass is surrounded by scavengers. In this instance the Lappet-faced vultures were fighting for dominance. This was the fifth and final wildebeest crossing w This was the fifth and final wildebeest crossing we saw on my Tanzania photographic tour last year, and it was the first large crossing of the season. After observing the movement of the herd for a while, I suggested to our driver that we move to the next crossing point. He was hesitant but shortly after realised I was right, and we managed to get a prime position. We sat in awe watching and photographing the wildebeests crossing for two and a half hours, with no end in sight. We then decided to move on, so have no idea how much longer the crossing continued. I can't even begin to estimate how may wildebeests crossed during the time we were there, but it was many thousands. This is the most comprehensive photographic tour of Namibia that I'm aware of, and more importantly, it's a small group of 5 photographers plus me, at a very reasonable price point. Don't be fooled by other tours with inflated prices, stating they're staying in the best accommodation. In Namibia there are very few accommodation options, and typically we will all be using the same hotels and lodges.
